How to Hang a Neon Sign Using Hanging Wires
Want your custom LED neon sign to hang mid-air rather than mount flat on a wall? A ceiling suspension kit gives your sign a floating, suspended look that's especially striking in storefronts, restaurants, studios, and event spaces. Here's exactly how to do it using the wire suspension kit available with your Nightglow order.

Two Ways to Hang Your Neon Sign from the Ceiling
Depending on your space and how much adjustability you need, there are two hanging methods to choose from. Both are included on request with your Nightglow order.
Method 1 — Ceiling Suspension Kit (Adjustable Drop)
Best for: storefronts, restaurants, studios, and any space where you want full control over hanging height.
The ceiling suspension kit includes four adjustable steel wire cables, each with a ceiling bracket at the top and a hook clip at the bottom. The cables loop and lock, letting you set your sign at exactly the height you want.

What You'll Need
- Ceiling suspension kit (4 cables with ceiling brackets and hook clips)
- A drill
- Appropriate screws and anchors for your ceiling type
- A pencil
- A measuring tape or level
- A ladder
Step 1 — Plan Your Placement Hold your sign up and decide where you want it to hang. Mark the four ceiling points that correspond with the mounting holes on your sign's acrylic backing.
Step 2 — Check What's Above Your Ceiling Use a stud finder to locate ceiling joists and anchor into one wherever possible. If you can't hit a joist, use toggle bolts or ceiling anchors rated for the weight of your sign.
Step 3 — Install the Ceiling Brackets Drill a hole at each marked point and screw the ceiling brackets firmly into place. Make sure all four are secure before moving on.
Step 4 — Feed and Lock the Wire Cables Thread the top of each wire cable through its ceiling bracket and pull to your desired drop length. The locking mechanism grips the wire at whatever height you set.
Step 5 — Attach the Hook Clips to Your Sign Clip the bottom hook of each cable through the corresponding mounting hole in your sign's acrylic backing. Check that all four are secure and the sign sits level.
Step 6 — Fine-Tune the Height Step back and adjust individual cables up or down until the sign hangs perfectly level.
Step 7 — Plug In and Enjoy Route the power cord to the nearest outlet, switch on, and enjoy.
Method 2 — Hanging Wire Cables (Simple Two-Point Hang)
Best for: homes, studios, event spaces, wedding backdrops, and anywhere you want a quick, clean install without ceiling drilling.
This method uses two short steel cables, each with a hook at both ends. One hook attaches to your sign, the other to a hook, curtain rod, dowel, or hanging rail above — no ceiling drilling required.

What You'll Need
- 2 hanging wire cables (hook-to-hook)
- A wall hook, ceiling hook, curtain rod, or timber dowel to hang from
- A drill or adhesive hook (depending on your surface)
Step 1 — Set Up Your Hanging Point Decide what you'll hang the sign from. Popular options include:
- A timber dowel or copper pipe suspended between two wall hooks
- A curtain rod or rail
- Two individual ceiling or wall hooks spaced to match your sign's mounting holes
If you're installing hooks directly into a wall or ceiling, drill and anchor them in first. For a no-drill option, heavy-duty adhesive hooks work well for lighter signs.
Step 2 — Attach the Cables to Your Sign Hook one end of each cable through a mounting hole on your sign's acrylic backing. The hooks are adjustable — squeeze or open the loop to fit securely.
Step 3 — Hang the Sign Hook the other end of each cable over your rod, rail, or hooks above. Step back and check that the sign hangs level — if one side is slightly lower, adjust the hook position on that cable.
Step 4 — Plug In and Style Route the power cord neatly and plug in. This hanging method pairs beautifully with a raw timber dowel or brass rod for a warm, design-forward look — great for wedding backdrops and lifestyle shoots.

Tips for the Best Result
- Symmetry matters. Measure the distance between your bracket points carefully — uneven spacing will make the sign hang crooked no matter how much you adjust the cables.
- Mind the ceiling height. In spaces with low ceilings, a suspended sign can feel cramped. Ideally you want at least 8 feet of ceiling height for this install to look its best.
- Storefronts and commercial spaces: If your sign is going above a window display or in a high-traffic area, double-check that your ceiling fixings are rated for the load. When in doubt, anchor into a joist or consult a professional.
- Events and temporary installs: The hook clips make it easy to remove the sign without uninstalling the ceiling brackets — great if you're using your neon sign for a wedding, pop-up, or seasonal display.
The Result
A suspended neon sign has a completely different energy than a wall-mounted one — it catches light from all sides, looks incredible in photos, and commands attention in a way that flat mounting just can't match. It's a favourite for café windows, retail displays, and wedding backdrops.
